Since the NBA lockout is fully underway and players are starting to replace their Nike basketball shoes and jersey shorts for a nice suit and tie for the courtroom, Detroit Pistons’ forward Greg Monroe is trying his hand at returning to Georgetown University.

Pistons center Greg Monroe called his two years at Georgetown “the most fun of my life,” according the Georgetown Voice.

“There’s never a time in your life like college, no matter what you do when you finish,” Monroe told the school’s news magazine.

The lockout is giving off the brighter side of life to some players, but there is still a slight concern I have for the rank-and-file players of the league. Going back to school is great and it presents a separate option than just sitting around getting paid for appearances if the players are not granted an early decision from the courts or a viable settlement from the league.

But, as Christmas approaches, I cannot help but wonder how the lower echelon of basketball players will be able to maintain their lifestyles after such a financial drought. It is getting deeper into the season and with no end in sight, times look to get harder for these men. Not better.
