The Detroit pistons officially announced the signing of 2 of their 3 draft picks from the 2013 Draft. First round selection, and 8th pick in the draft Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is officially a member of your Detroit Pistons. KCP signed his rookie deal Friday along with fellow draft pick Tony Mitchell.

Mitchell played 2 seasons at North Texas University where he exhibited eye-opening athleticism and tremendous potential. He saw his draft stock take a huge hit after his second season at North Texas as he showed a disinterest in competing. Mitchell was considered a lottery talent, but fell to the Pistons in the second round because of the questions about his motor (i.e. Drummond).

Tony showed his tremendous potential during this year’s Orlando Summer League. Mitchell showed extreme athleticism with his thunderous dunks and shattering blocks. The athletic duo of Mitchell and Drummond was one of the most exciting segments to watch in Orlando. Mitchell averaged 8 points and 7 rebounds a game in 25 minutes of play. He is expected to be a key player off the bench for Mo Cheeks and his staff.

One of the more surprising draft picks in this years draft was Detroit selecting little known shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope out of the University of Georgia. KCP scored in double digits in each of his games this past year at Georgia. He averaged 18 points per game at Georgia, and was named the SEC player of the year this past season.

KCP got off to a rough start in Orlando, going 0/8 from deep and just 2/10 from the field against the Nets. He also struggled in game 2 of the Orlando Summer League, but bounced back in the last 3 games averaging 18 points a game. He finished the Summer League averaging nearly 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals a game.

KCP showed tremendous timing on the defensive end, getting multiple steals
