Pistons interested in free agent small forward Caron Butler

The Detroit Pistons look to be preparing for life after Tayshaun Prince, as the team is reportedly interested in free agent small forward Caron Butler. Butler has battled through injury lately, but he is looking for a multi-year deal and his former team, the Dallas Mavericks, are reluctant to give him anything but a one-year offer, according to reports.

Butler is meeting with five teams and it appears the Pistons are simply a contingency plan. Here is how ESPNDallas.com writer Brian Caplan worded his report:

Butler will visit with team officials from theChicago Bulls on Monday morning, followed by trips to sit down with officials from the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday night, the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday, the New Jersey Nets on Wednesday and possibly the Detroit Pistons on Thursday, a source close to the situation confirmed Sunday night.

While it’s no fun to be the team last on the list, and probably a last resort for the free agent, I guess the rebuilding Pistons better get used to it for a little while.

I’d rather resign Tayshaun than to sign Butler. At least Prince is versatile and has not had the injury history that Butler has had over his career.

Hey Pistons! Just get younger and build toward the future!
