Pistons targets in the NBA Draft

A little nugget courtesy of the latest Mock Draft from ESPN’s Chad Ford. While this version is officially 4.0, he has had a different player pegged for the Pistons in each subsequent version, including Bismack Biyombo who I’ve already claimed as the Pistons eventual pick.

Well, in his latest he has the Pistons selecting Jonas Valanciunas, certainly one of the more high-upside players in the draft but also someone who could remind weary Pistons fans of a certain Darko Milicic. Ford has this to say:

Analysis: After changing up the Pistons’ mock for three straight weeks, we’re finally steadying the boat a bit. The Pistons are really looking at five players: Valanciunas, (Brandon) Knight, (Jan) Vesely, Biyombo and Tristan Thompson.

Biyombo and Thompson are the best fits of the group, but with new owner Tom Gores giving Joe Dumars some freedom to remake the Pistons don’t be surprised to see the Pistons swing for the fences. Valanciunas is a risk, but his upside is high and he could be the long-term answer for the Pistons in the middle.

Topics: Bismack Biyombo, Brandon Knight, Chad Ford, Detroit Pistons, Jan Vesely, Jonas Valanciunas, NBA Draft, Tristan Thompson
