Former Detroit Piston Darko Milicic is reportedly raffling off the championship ring he earned with the Detroit Pistons in an effort to raise money for charity.
Milicic will always leave a sour taste in the mouths of many Pistons fans, but seeing him as a competent NBA rotation player, currently with the Minnesota Timberwolves, has made me feel a little better about the whole ordeal. And although it’s been widely known that he never relished his time in Detroit or felt like he accomplished anything, even in the 2003-04 championship season, I feel bad that he can’t look back and realize he was part of something rare and special — a championship team.
But there is certainly no better way to get rid of your Pistons memorabilia than auctioning it off for charity. The money raised will go to The Zorana and Darko Milicic Fund for Children with Life Threatening Diseases, which helps children dealing with the terminal illness Batten’s disease.
The winner also receives a gaggle of other awesome prizes including a trip to an NBA finals game, $500 in spending money for the trip and an autographed Milicic jersey. Tickets for the raffle are just $2 each, but a minimum purchase of $10 is required.
