Pistons Do It With Rebounding And Defense Against ATL

AUTHOR: toasterhands | IN: Pistons | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The formula for the Detroit Pistons, if they want to even sniff the .500 mark, is to consistently play the kind of tenacious defense they played against the Hawks today.  The defensive effort was fantastic in almost every aspect.  Only one block the entire game, but Ben altered a bunch of shots today and the other guys made sure to body up the Hawks players and get a hand in their faces.   I don’t know if the Jason Maxiell insertion helped set the tone more so than usual or what, but I liked what I saw.
Ben Wallace looks like Ben Wallace of old.  His 11 offensive [...]

Former Pistons Doing Work On A Friday Night

AUTHOR: toasterhands | IN: Pistons | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

It was a pretty nice evening  around the Association for many former Detroit Pistons ( and maybe a future Detroit Piston?…)

First off I’ll start with Flip Murray-  10 points and 3 feeds (NO TURNOVERS) in 20 minutes in a Bobcat victory over the sluggish Cavs
Flip’s teammate Nazr Mohammed played big minutes off the bench (28) adding 13 points and 6 rebounds.  Nazr has now scored in double figures in three straight games for the streaking Bobcats
Rasheed Wallace played an inspired game helping Boston run away from Toronto- 4 steals, 1 block and 15 points on 6-11 shooting
Antonio McDyess started and played 36 [...]

That this guy isn’t the starting point guard for the Pistons

Deep breaths Pistons fans.  It could be worse.

Rodney Stuckey vs. Will Bynum: Who Should Start?

AUTHOR: Steve Kays | IN: Pistons | COMMENTS: 9 Comments

There’s been a lot of talk among Detroit Pistons blogs and fans that are calling for backup point guard Will Bynum to take the reins from starter Rodney Stuckey and start in his place. And it’s not a bad idea it would seem at first glance. Looking at the raw stats Bynum is averaging 14 points per game, along with 4 assists and 3.5 rebounds in just 28 minutes per game while shooting 50% from the field. Meanwhile, Stuckey on the season is averaging 16.5 points per game, along with 4 assists and 5.1 rebounds in 37.8 minutes per game [...]

Don’t Know If I’ve Ever Seen That Before

AUTHOR: toasterhands | IN: Pistons | COMMENTS: None Yet

First Ron Artest throws Trevor Ariza’s shoe off the court as the Rockets (Luis Scola) run down on offense and then Ron promptly knocks down a triple after the Lakers gain possession back.
Ariza’s immediate reaction to having his sneaker thrown away is like, “come oooon, what are you ten years old Ron?
Trevor, and you probably know this anyways, but you got off easy man.

Trading Rip & Tayshaun

AUTHOR: Steve Kays | IN: Pistons | COMMENTS: 12 Comments

There’s been a lot of talk the past few months that the Pistons are going to trade Rip Hamilton and/or Tayshaun Prince. Such talk has been justified ever since the Pistons signed Ben Gordon and drafted Austin Daye, the apparent heirs to Hamilton and Prince, respectively. Not to mention that the Pistons have recently traded/lost Chauncey Billups, Rasheed Wallace, and Antonio McDyess. Hamilton has been the more likely candidate to be dealt since Gordon is more than able to start in his place, while Daye is more of an unknown at this point.
It is my opinion that the Pistons will [...]

Pistons-Bobcats Preview:”Sure, Bobcats are bad, but it’s hard to tell just how bad”

AUTHOR: toasterhands | IN: Pistons | COMMENTS: None Yet

Quote by sports columnist Tom Sorenson of the Charlotte Observer everybody. (link)
Preview (actually the quote would have sufficed just fine)
Hopefully the Palace crowd will provide a warm welcome for former Pistons Flip Murray, Nazr Mohammed and that cranky yet lovable Larry Brown.
Also, Palace crowd, be kind to that star-laden starting five of  Raymond Felton, Raja Bell, Gerald Wallace, Boris “don’t call me” Diaw and Tyson Chandler.
Dear God, if it were not for D.J. Augustin and Derrick Brown (I know, right!) this team would be the biggest collection of mundane veterans I’ve ever seen assembled.
Oh, and for the record, Gerald Wallace is pretty good and not mundane.
But when he’s the [...]

You’re now chatting with a random stranger. Say hi!

You: If you were Joe Dumars, who would you rather trade… Richard Hamilton or Tayshaun Prince?

Stranger: tayshaun, for sure.

You: Why?

Stranger: he’s way weaker than hamilton, are you kidding me?

You: What value could Joe get in return?

Stranger: hmm… well, at least a 100,000 settlement.

Stranger: now, just to clarify, what exactly are we talking about?

You: Nuclear Physics

Stranger: ahh. that makes sense.

Stranger: so, string theory connects the two.

Stranger: oh wait, that’s quantum, my bad.

Your conversational partner has disconnected.

Pistons Stats Pick’em UPDATE…

AUTHOR: toasterhands | IN: Pistons | COMMENTS: None Yet

There ended up being 16 participants in the Pick’em contest I posted prior to the season  (probably posted too far in advance to the season, but oh well).   Still have not decided on the prize but I ASSURE you it will be something decent, especially considering 16 of you took time to make selections, about a dozen more than I thought would.
Anyways,
Through 6 games here are how the numbers look so far…
1- Will Bynum’s min/gm 26.7    Ben Gordon’s ppg 24.2
When Rip comes back Bynum’s minutes will surely decrease, but probably not more than a few minutes per game. This race should be [...]

Deron Washington A Los Angeles D-Fender

AUTHOR: toasterhands | IN: Pistons | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

If you suddenly get cut from an NBA team just before the season starts, there’s always the D-League to fall back on.
D-League draft coverage baby!!!
From NBA.com

Other players drafted in the 2009 D-League draft include that one guy who came out (of college) too early and that other guy who didn’t go to college.
Enjoy!
