****Update****
The participant with the most correct selections out of 15 will win a prize (TBD). Since, obviously, the winner will not be known until the conclusion of the season, the prize won’t be something silly like a Detlef Schrempf trading card (packaged with a reverse dunking Keith Van Horn card) or a ticket stub from a Pistons-Jazz game in 2003. The prize will be something more like a Ben Wallace bobblehead (if I can part ways with it) or a Terry Mills signed mini basketball (if I can find it amongst my disastrous basement). However, like I said, prize is TBD– hopefully the creative minds here at LoD can think of a splendidly awesome prize by the time April 15th rolls around.
**As a reminder this post will appear again shortly before the first regular season game on October 28th.
** Weekly updates of these matchups will be posted as well

I believe most if not all of these pairs will be pretty close at season’s end. If you think any of these are ridiculous and won’t even be close, tell us why in the comments. If you got any others, please post them in the comments as well. And by golly, make some selections too!

7- Ben Wallace’s ppg or Charlie Villanueva’s assists/gm
8- Jason Maxiell’s min/gm or Rip Hamilton’s ppg
9- Will Bynum’s total 3 pointers made or Chris Wilcox double-doubles

Ha! Great idea and quite humorous.
1: BG — I have a feeling Bynum is going to get the shaft, especially with all the talk about BG trying his hand at PG.
2: Wallace (although too much will be left to match-ups and how Q-ster feels about kwame to be certain)
3: Wallace starts.
4: Tay
5: BG
6: LOL! I’m going with BG here …
7: CV
8: Max (here’s hoping, anyway)
9: Wilcox
10: CV (although I hope it’s the other way around)
11: Daye
12: Stuckey (easy one)
13: Rip (assuming he stays here all season)
14: lineups
15: Home wins (but only because there’s only one basketball to go around)
#12 might not be as easy as you think (Charlie had 56 blocks in 78 games last season- RS had 78 steals in 79 games last season…and Charlie played almost 5 minutes a game less-
Well, if the Pistons are going to be any good on D Charlie might have to average better than a block per game, maybe even more than a block and a half
Actually, I think your pretty dead on….cept I’d like 2 believe that 14 will be road wins-(even if just barely)-
Yeah this was pretty fun. You made me do my research! Haha
Ok here we go….
#1 Gordon. I’d be surprised if he didn’t score at least 18 a game.
#2 Wilcox. He’ll be the starter probably some 20 games into the season.
#3 Wallace. Kwame’s not getting more than 5 DDs.
#4 Summers. This is a tough one. I think Tay will score more due to the faster tempo, but Summers looks so NBA ready. Summers at 16 mpg.
#5 Gordon. He’s simply a better player at this point.
#6 Gordon. Might be closer than you think though.
#7 Wallace. CV probably won’t avg more than 2 apg.
#8 Maxiell. Close call. Hopefully he averages more than the 18 mpg he did last year. Rip probably will get 17-18 ppg.
#9 Wilcox. Willy’s range isn’t that far.
#10 Stuckey. Kinda depends on how much they like Gordon at the #1, but I think he’ll clock in around 35 mpg.
#11 Daye. He’s the future, Ben’s a one yr deal. Plus I like what I saw of Daye at summer league.
#12 Stuckey. Hard to call since both will get more mins than last season. They’ll prob both be around 1.2.
#13 Washington. I think his ridiculous athleticism will get him into games. I also don’t expect Rip to complain quite as much as last season.
#14 Lineups. Coach Q will experiment a lot (Esp cause of trades) and Detroit will prob go .500 on the road.
#15 Home wins. I expect Gordon to score 18-21 ppg and for the team to win at least 25 home games.
1- Ben Gordon’s ppg
2- Ben Wallace’s free throw %
3- Ben Wallace starts
4- DaJuan Summers’ min/gm
5- Rip Hamilton’s min/gm or Ben Gordon’s min/gm
6- Jonas Jerebko’s total minutes played
7- Ben Wallace’s ppg
8- Jason Maxiell’s min/gm
9- Will Bynum’s total 3 pointers made
10- Charlie Villanueva’s 3 point %
11- Austin Daye’s total games played
12- Rodney Stuckey’s total steals
13- Deron Washington’s total games played
14- road wins
15- Home wins
Hmmmm… over the last few weeks your blog either (a) takes 5 minutes to load the content (your posts) or (b) won’t load it at all. I use Firefox on OSX. Thought you’d want to know.
(I had to get here by clicking the “recent comments” link on the sidebar.)
luvmypistons-
I would like to see 14 be road wins too, but I imagine this team playing like the Tigers on the road, maybe only winning 15-18 games. Although, now that I think about it, if there are no major trades, the only position I see potential tweaking/experimenting is the center position, Kwame? Wilcox? Wallace? So the different starting lineups could if things go smoothly injury wise, be quite low.
kays- If wilcox is only playing 20-25 minutes a game, I don’t think he’ll reach more than 5-8 double-doubles… Will should be able to triple his threes made from last year’s total (3) though not that we need him shooting from the outside since he’s best driving
Feldman-
Think Jonas is gonna get some run this season huh? I think he’ll be playing a lot of D league
Johnathan- I’ll look into it
1- Ben Gordon’s ppg
2- Chris Wilcox starts
3- Ben Wallace starts
4- Tayshuan Prince’s ppg
5- Ben Gordon’s min/gm
6- Jonas Jerebko’s total minutes played (i highly doubt ben wallace will attempt a 3)
7- Ben Wallace’s ppg
8- Rip Hamilton’s ppg
9- Chris Wilcox double-doubles (i think this will be his breakout year)
10- Rodney Stuckey’s min/gm
11- Austin Daye’s total games played
12- Charlie Villanueva’s total blocks
13- Deron Washington’s total games played
14- Different starting lineups
15- the leading scorer of the team
Kenneth-
LOL- #6 is talking about made threes for Gordon, not Wallace.
Great post! How about Ben Wallace’s free throw percentage or total Pistons victories?
I’m going with Big Ben on that one…by a hair: 43% vs. 39 wins.
Drew-
I’m not surprised you said that
Yeah, well Drew’s a hater, so it’s ok.
The last time Wilcox got some serious burn he had 17 double-doubles in 28 mpg. I think he could have a similiar season to that here.
Also, I want to revise my #14. I don’t think Coach Q will be as bad as Michael Curry. I can see him trying out maybe 15 starting lineups at best compared to 20 road wins.
Not a hater, guys. Just a realist!
p.s. I’m counting the days to the Toasterhands 2,000 word post (or is it 5,000 words?)!!
I’ll worry about how many words I promised when it actually happens. I’m not sweating it.
