State of the Pistons– Head Coach and Backcourt

AUTHOR: toasterhands | IN: Pistons | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

John Kuester
When it boils right down to it, nobody knows what to expect from this Kuester guy. Sure, every head coach has their own secrets and quirks, offensive gameplans, defensive gameplans, schemes—it can go on and on. What I’m looking for from the first time NBA head coach is instincts.
Can he recognize even the slightest subtleties during the game some coaches mismanage or even just plain ignore? Can Kuester make adjustments within the flow of the game instead of idling around until halftime arrives? Fans would like to know that the guy in charge is actually ‘in charge’, and just not figure, or [...]

Kenneth Lavon Atkins

AUTHOR: toasterhands | IN: Pistons | COMMENTS: None Yet

is back in Detroit on a non-guaranteed deal.  If he can somehow latch on as the 15th player on the roster that would be pretty neat.
And if he can team up with Big Ben just one more time that would be cool too.
(virtually no videos on YouTube with Chucky in action as a Piston so this will have to suffice)

10 Best Pistons Dunkers in 21st Century

AUTHOR: toasterhands | IN: Pistons | COMMENTS: 12 Comments

I know this century is still in the infancy stage, but here’s my list of the 10 best Pistons dunkers NOT named Jason Maxiell  from 01 to 09.
I tried to base this list on specific dunks these players made as Pistons and not just what other fine slams they had with other teams.
#10
Mikki Moore- I remember Mikki throwing down the hammer a few times with Detroit.  Mikki always played with insatiable hunger.
#9
Ronald Dupree-  Ron didn’t get to shoot a lot, much less dunk. But the sole reason he made a decent career out of playing basketball was, without a doubt, his explosive hops.
Evidence-

#8
Michael Curry- Curry had long arms [...]

How Depressing It Must Be In Memphis

AUTHOR: toasterhands | IN: Pistons | COMMENTS: None Yet

Notice how Allen Iverson mentions nothing about accepting his role in Memphis, whatever it may be, and reversing his selfish behavior he so lavishly exhibited during his short Detroit stint.
Iverson gets standing ovation in Memphis
“This year, for me, is so personal,” Iverson said.
“It’s basically going to be my rookie season again. It hurts, but I turn the TV on, I read the paper, I listen to some of the things people say about me having the season that I had last year and me losing a step, things like that. They’re trying to put me in a rocking chair already.”
AI must [...]

Joe Dumars’ $20 Million Summer

AUTHOR: Steve Kays | IN: Pistons | COMMENTS: 11 Comments

Hey guys, this is Steve Kays, here making my Life on Dumars debut. I hope you all enjoy my first piece!
As of late, Pistons President Joe Dumars has received a lot of criticism this past season and offseason for the recent moves he’s made for the Pistons, specifically the use of the $20 million in cap space generated by Allen Iverson’s expiring contract to sign Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva. Now, it’s fine and all to criticize someone, but you had better have a better plan instead. The critics can’t seem to ever be happy. Let’s say that Chauncey Billups [...]

Where Are They Now?

AUTHOR: toasterhands | IN: Pistons | COMMENTS: None Yet

In case you wanted to know where all the members of the 09 Summer League team are currently squatting…
Sham from ShamSports.com does all the research, and then I post it here for you!
Where Are They Now?  (a few examples)
Marquise Gray: Gray was a very late addition to the Pistons squad, getting the gig basically only because he was from Michigan State (for whom he averaged a hot and spicy 3/3 last year). He had 7 points and 6 fouls in his one summer league game, and is currently unsigned. Apparently he had offers from Israel, France and Germany, but nothing has come of [...]

Toaster’s Burnt Farrago

AUTHOR: toasterhands | IN: Pistons | COMMENTS: None Yet

Sorry for the lack of posting the last few days.  Made the move to Ann Arbor for college.  Some good stuff on the horizon however.  And hopefully Steve Kays will be making his debut shortly…

It’s looking more and more like this is what Piston’s fans have to look forward to this season from Charlie V:

“Indeed, against Canada, Villanueva shot the piss out of the ball, but didn’t deliver much for his efforts.  He produced a ridiculously low 17 points while using up 21.5 scoring possessions.  Against Canada!!  (How will the Bucks ever replace that kind of scoring??). And when CV is [...]

Pistons Stats Pick’em Contest (prize for winner)

AUTHOR: toasterhands | IN: Pistons | COMMENTS: 28 Comments

****Update****
The participant with the most correct selections out of 15 will win a prize (TBD).  Since, obviously, the winner will not be known until the conclusion of the season, the prize won’t be something silly like a Detlef Schrempf trading card (packaged with a reverse dunking Keith Van Horn card) or a ticket stub from a Pistons-Jazz game in 2003.  The prize will be something more like a Ben Wallace bobblehead (if I can part ways with it) or a Terry Mills signed mini basketball (if I can find it amongst my disastrous basement).  However, like I said, prize is TBD– hopefully the creative minds here at LoD can think [...]
