Kwame Brown: Dissed, Even In Fine Print

AUTHOR: toasterhands | IN: Pistons | COMMENTS: None Yet

Satire?
Surely.
But it’s still funny.
Straight Bangin’s Do You Really Want to Win the Michael Contest?
Fine print item number 8 of 13:
Contest Winner shall neither inquire about nor even mention: Kwame Brown, the Washington Wizards, the 1995 NBA playoffs, the awkward clawing fight with Reggie Miller, the Birmingham Barrons, the Jordan IX, any Jordan model after XIV, Juanita Jordan, the years 1999 through the present.
Someone give Kwame a hug.

‘Jungle’ is probably overestimating LoD’s mojo a little.
But LoD always had high self-esteem.
Always.

Curtis Jerrells Anybody?

AUTHOR: toasterhands | IN: Pistons | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

According to a HOOPSWORLD article by Luke Byrnes, former Baylor guard Curtis Jerrells has signed a partially guaranteed deal with Detroit (hat tip- Leif Anderson) . As of nearly midnight, no other sources have reported such.
Jerrells played in the Vegas Summer league with Dallas, averaging 5.2 ppg in 5 games (9min/gm). The 6′1 Jerrells was undrafted out of Baylor despite being a big time scorer.
Looks like, if this signing is true, Jerrells, Sean Singletary, and Andre Owens will be duking it out for the third string point guard spot, provided Detroit decides to even add a fifteenth player to the roster.

Forgotten Pistons (V) Mr. Ten Day Contract

AUTHOR: toasterhands | IN: Pistons | COMMENTS: None Yet

#7 Anthony Goldwire
Anthony Goldwire spent twenty lovely days in 04/05 as a Detroit Piston by way of two ten day contracts, the first signed just one day after Detroit kicked Larry Brown’s red headed step-child Smush Parker to the curb. In twenty days Goldwire did manage to see action in nine games, which if nothing else, tells me a thing or two how confident Detroit was about playing Horace Jenkins backup guard minutes at the time.
Now, part of the reason I chose Goldwire to be a Forgotten Piston is, well, he’s easily forgettable. Raise of hands on how many remembered Goldwire in the [...]

Toaster’s Burnt Farrago

AUTHOR: toasterhands | IN: Pistons | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Been in the ol’ toaster too long.
Must eject.

Dan Feldman’s second favorite team is San Antonio, “When I watch the Spurs, I see what the Pistons could have been. And Detroit was just the Darko pick away from being San Antonio. I rarely feel strongly about a team other than the Pistons. I didn’t really root for the Spurs as much as I recognized they were everything I wished the Pistons were. But now I want them to be the rich man’s Detroit, so they can get Antonio McDyess the ring he deserves.”  (emphasis mine) Piston Powered

Forgotten Pistons (IV) Cedric The Entertainer

AUTHOR: toasterhands | IN: Pistons | COMMENTS: 5 Comments

If I remember it correctly, there was lot of optimism surrounding Ceballos in Detroit for the 00-01 season– the season prior he scored a cool 16.6 a game in just under 30 minutes with Dallas. Well, his stint in Detroit didn’t exactly set anything of consequence on fire. Cedric played all of 13 games (12.8 min/gm) before getting shipped out to Miami not even a month into the season.  However, big picture wise Ceballos had quite a successful career for a second round draft pick out of Cal-Fullerton, and I’m not even referring to his basketball achievements, which include an All-Star game [...]

Forgotten Pistons (III) The Champ’s Thirteenth Man

AUTHOR: toasterhands | IN: Pistons | COMMENTS: 7 Comments

#3 on my Forgotten Pistons list…
#24 Tremaine Fowlkes-
Tremaine was the thirteenth man on the 04 Championship squad (Fowlkes on the left in black), sort of like being Snow White’s eighth dwarf.  Except Tremaine was fortunate enough to get a ring out of the deal (though not a mention on the championship shirt I own). Meanwhile, who the eighth dwarf should be  is still being mulled over by bawdy internet types.
Tremaine is the first of our Forgotten Pistons selections to actually suit up for another NBA team following his stay in Detroit, although, Detroit was kinda the reason he even got the opportunity. Remember the Palace Brawl with Indy, well, it really [...]

Forgotten Pistons (II)

AUTHOR: toasterhands | IN: Pistons | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

#1 on my Forgotten Pistons list- Kornel David
#2…
#12 Steve Henson-
Steve saw action for Detroit in 97-98 and in 98-99. If the 23 games he played with Detroit in 97-98 was a cup of tea (as I like to call it since I don’t drink coffee), then the paltry four games he played with them the following season was a sip of prune juice and nothing more. Like Kornel David, Detroit was Henson’s last NBA team he ever suited up for. At 5′11 and not extraordinarily quick, Henson was able to throw threes up but not much else. I had the privilege of [...]
