I Should Have Known

Stuff that happened while I was in sunny California…

  • Dumars hires another inexperienced coach (not the reason I was in hiding)

  • Dumars gives last year’s second round pick a guaranteed contract before beginning of summer league

  • Dumars is shopping Afflalo around

  • Team wastes two summer league slots on the likes of Travis Walton and Marquise Gray

  • McDyess signs with San Antonio

  • Sheed signs with Boston

  • Gordon and Villanueva officially become Pistons

At least I didn’t miss too much.

While I haven’t been able to catch but more than a few minutes of one summer league game, I can sure read a mean box score if you know what I mean.

Here’s what I discovered from scouring summer league box scores from the first couple days of action:

  • Amir Johnson’s first game with the Bucks went pretty pathetically: 4 points and 4 rebounds in 21 minutes. And 7 fouls and 7 turnovers just for fun.

  • As you probably already know, DaJuan Summers went for 24 on 9-15 shooting in his Piston debut. On Saturday DaJuan followed that up by scoring 19 on 7-17 shooting. He sure isn’t bashful. Speaking about not being bashful, Jonas Jerebko put up 14 shots on Saturday en route to a 12 point, 7 rebound game in almost 28 minutes of action. But Jonas did have 8 fouls, so somebody might want to show him some tape of Amir Johnson and give him some pointers of what to do if he wants to stick around these parts for awhile.

  • Former MSU Spartan Alan Anderson had a pretty uninspiring 12 point game on Saturday for the Lakers, shooting 3-11 and grabbing just 3 boards in 29 minutes.

  • Adam Morrison (yeah the guy we all made fun of because he looked like such a misfit on the Laker’s bench during the playoffs) is tearing it up on the court so far in two games with LA, averaging 23 points.

  • The Rockets’ Chase Budinger in limited minutes has shown why he just might stick in this league for a long time, totaling 36 points on 14-21 shooting in two games.

  • After a disappointing 8 point, 8 foul, 6 turnover performance in Dallas’ first summer league game, Rodrique Beaubois came back with a vengeance in game two scoring 34 on 7-12 shooting from downtown. The downside of his game two performance was the actual increase of fouls he committed from that of game one.
