Pen and Paper

Dear Amir Johnson,

Seems like you were a Piston forever, yet you’re only 22.  Where did the time go?  What do you have to show for it?

I, for one, am sad to see you go.  But you had four years to prove you were a valuable piece.  You didn’t exactly set the world on fire.

Your energy and athleticism will be sorely missed, but quite frankly your noggin will not be.  If you ever want to be something in this league, wise up boy. Come to think of it, learn how to shoot and add some strength while you’re at it.

Keep your head up because it could be worse. I mean, count your lucky stars kid, at least you’re not going to Milwaukee to be bitched at by Scott Skiles  Clipperland to be punked by Blake Griffin and god knows who else on a daily basis.

And remember now, you’re just a ripe 22 years old.  Just think of what you can accomplish now that you don’t have one of the more insightful and caring teammate’s in the league at your disposal (yeah the guy with the white birthmark on his head). Hell, no use on dwelling on the past, just make the best of the present, Amir.  Milk every last morsel of knowledge out of Bogut, Villanueva and Gadzuric that you can.  Don’t sell yourself short.

Good luck and go get ‘em Amir!

Sincerely,

Me

[...] Life on Dumars writes a letter to Amir Johnson touching on Amir’s time with the Pistons and his future.  Personally, I don’t think Amir was used fairly during his stint with Detroit.  I think a fresh start will do him well.  That being said, if he was going to continue to get minimal minutes, he definitely was not worth the $3.6 million he was set to make this season.
