Dumars Basically Admits Hiring Curry Was Foolish

AUTHOR: toasterhands | IN: Pistons | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

That’s what the firing of Curry tells us.
Joe D.  is on record earlier today as saying that he feels Curry isn’t the right man to lead this team back to where it needs to be.
I don’t necessarily disagree.
BUT,
The timing sucks.
This could have been done before the draft, heck, it could have been done on the Friday after it.
Doing this just hours before free agency does not make a whole lot of sense.
I think Joe has officially lost it.
And also, who in their right mind would want to come here and coach for Joe D?  I mean, think about it.

Yes, that Dwayne Jones.

The one who played with Delonte West, Jameer Nelson and Chet Stachitas at St. Joes and was once the Atlantic 10 defensive player of the year. Also the guy who makes Kwame Brown look like Hakeem Olajuwon in the post and has played for three different teams in his brief four season career in the NBA. Yep, that Dwayne Jones will be on the Piston’s Vegas Summer-League team along with ten other players.
The Pistons will begin play on July 10th against the Kings.  Full schedule here.
The rest of the cast includes,
-Rookies Austin Daye, DaJuan Summers and Jonas Jerebko.
No surprise here.
-Last year’s draft [...]

Prospects Smoshpects

AUTHOR: toasterhands | IN: Pistons | COMMENTS: 5 Comments

As you know by now the Pistons selected Gonzaga forward Austin Daye at #15. At the exact moment of the selection, I was unfazed and overall very uninterested, sort of felt the selection was a bit anti-climatic, I was expecting more of a shocker.  I’ll blame it on the Walter Sharpe selection last draft.  But anyways, a couple of days later and not much has changed in my view. During the past few college basketball seasons I have watched Gonzaga probably a half a dozen times or so. What stood out to me was the depth and unselfishness they displayed. Austin Daye being the fourth [...]

What Some Folks Are Saying

AUTHOR: toasterhands | IN: Pistons | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

Dan Wetzel of Yahoo! Sports had this to say about the Austin Daye selection:
LOSER: Detroit Pistons
First-round pick Austin Daye is a really nice, 6-11 forward from Gonzaga. He also weighs just 190 pounds and was routinely pushed around in college. Pistons GM Joe Dumars has made some nice non-lottery picks through the years, but at 15 and for a team in need of talent, this is a looong-term project and more than a bit of a reach.
Tom Bosco of The Georgetown Voice blog:
In many mocks drafts, Summers was projected to be a first round pick. By falling to the second [...]

What? No Volleyball Jokes?

It was a blast while it lasted Chase.  You’re now a Rocket.  Have fun competing in dunk contests with James White.
Some notable players undrafted:

Josh Heytvelt, Jerel McNeal, Jeff Adrien, Tyrese Rice, Lee Cummard, Jeremy Pargo, Dominic James, Dar Tucker (had really bad advice or something), A.J. Abrams, Dionte Christmas, Curtis Jerrells, Leo Lyons, and of course Alex Ruoff.

My surprise of the night was the selection of Jon Brockman, I had him going way earlier
Lie, actually my surprise of the night was Detroit passing on both Blair and Young, and Chinemelu Elonu I might add (trust me, I called for the drafting of Elonu during Fansided’s [...]

Lay-up Line

AUTHOR: toasterhands | IN: Pistons | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

First off, I’d like to say thank you to those that have stopped by LoD throughout the past month or so.  I hope you continue to visit the site and like what you see here.
Now on to the lay-ups!

In case you missed it, Piston’s GM Brian Packey selected Eric Maynor with the 15th pick in the draft.  Not too surprising Packey went with the small college kid considering Packey attended Davidson. (Motown String Music)
This next post single handedly saved me a lot of time and anger, because only God knows how worthless and gumpy I feel B.J. Mullens is. And now I don’t [...]

Pen and Paper

AUTHOR: toasterhands | IN: Pistons | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Dear Amir Johnson,
Seems like you were a Piston forever, yet you’re only 22.  Where did the time go?  What do you have to show for it?
I, for one, am sad to see you go.  But you had four years to prove you were a valuable piece.  You didn’t exactly set the world on fire.
Your energy and athleticism will be sorely missed, but quite frankly your noggin will not be.  If you ever want to be something in this league, wise up boy. Come to think of it, learn how to shoot and add some strength while you’re at it.
Keep your head up because [...]

Among Other Things

Anybody catch Rob Parker on Sports Final Edition last night?

In Rob’s ever hilarious substance-less Clubhouse Confidential bit, Rob said something to the tune of the Pistons selecting Brandon Jennings at #15.

Does Wob really have inside information (like the Stones moving up to get Jennings-because Jennings aint falling down to 15) or is this a case of Wob just being Wob?

A player to keep on your draft day radar: Philadelphia City Paper via TrueHoop

Previous #15 selections
1995- Brent Barry- Pretty solid career, slowing down quite a bit recently
1996- Steve Nash- Guy can play a little
1997- Kevin Cato- The shot blocking beast was [...]

Top 15 Picks Straight From LoD

AUTHOR: toasterhands | IN: Pistons | COMMENTS: 6 Comments

Not exactly the way I see the draft shaping up.
This is more of a look at how it should play out, you know, if people made competent decisons that I’ve deemed competent.
Think of me as the GM of each NBA team, and then take a deep breath.
Clips- Griffin
Like I stated in a prior post, over/under 7 All-Star appearances for Griffin?
Grizz- Tyreke Evans
Can’t take the chance that Rubio will not suit up for you, so you take arguably the player with the second most potential in the entire draft.
Thunder- Rubio
If the Thunder draft Rubio then essentially the Thunder are my undeniable Team B, shoving [...]
