With three 2nd round picks all within nine slots of each other, the chance that Joe goes with a couple foreigners we don’t know really anything about is, what, 50%? 75? 90? Personally, it would be a little anti-climatic if that is Joe’s desired route, but then again, stashing foreign talent overseas for a few years is not all that bad of an idea. But it sure the hell makes it more interesting when your team selects players you’ve seen and heard about for a few years.
Of course, Joe did select three college players from last year’s draft, so my worrisome thinking [...]

Familiar Intrigue
What Grade Would You Give Joe D?
With the NBA draft almost a month away I figure I’ll start my own coverage of it by looking at all of Joe D’s drafts.
You can’t get this kind of coverage anywhere else people.
2000
1st, 14th- Mateen Cleaves
2nd, 44th- Brian Cardinal
Cardinal turned out to have a better career than about half the players drafted in the first round, including Cleaves, sadly.
2001
1st, 9th- Rodney White
2nd, 38th- Mehmet Okur
Rodney has not appeared on NBA soil since 2005, mainly because he was allergic to defense, but probably because he’s a few cards short of a full deck too. He has played in places such as Puerto Rico, China, Spain, [...]
Post Don’t Lie
No player’s game to game performance and attitude have ever elicited so many different emotions from me as Rasheed Wallace’s have. Being a level headed fan of many sports, I’ve come to grasp the concept of letting things—as in player/team performance, attitude, instinct—run their course, so to say. I have vehemently vowed to never become that guy on the radio or poster on a forum that is so reactive to each game that his opinion changes about a player or team on a daily basis. I really detest those kind of reactionary “fans”, they could get punched by Ron Artest and [...]
Chauncey Being So Bad
Nuggets 1 Lakers 1.
I’m a happy camper folks.
Head on over to this link and behold Chauncey’s naughtiness.
Then follow the directions for optimal naughtiness.
The Next Movement?
If Richard Hamilton is traded, I will understand the reasoning. With the good days of contending all but over, the direction of the team I would hope would be headed towards youth and freeing/avoiding hefty contracts. In three, four, even five years from now when Detroit could be back in the upper echelon of the East, Hamilton will not be around anyway. Cut your losses now—full blown rebuilding mode here we come.
Though maybe Joe D has some Danny Ainge magic up his sleeve and can make something drastic happen without parting ways with Rip. I’d be on board with that. After [...]
Lost in Translation
Been a busy couple of days for me. Spent much of Tuesday in Ann Arbor meeting fellow transfer students, wandering around campus, and enduring monster headaches because of the foreign language UofM makes you learn to be able to sign up for classes. It’s a cross between American, African, and error. It was minimally funny until the moment I corrected my assigned academic advisor, telling her the course number I needed to input was indeed five digits, not three. At least her strong (intentionally withheld) accent was reliable.
In my web travels as of the last few days…
Pistons bits-
May 19th: Keith Langlois goes over possible NBA selections 1-15. Pistons might target Virginia Commonwealth’s Eric Maynor. True [...]
Roll’em
I didn’t much care for Antonio McDyess in a Piston’s uni at first. Admittedly I didn’t know much about the guy’s personality, all I knew was that he was a leaper and an All-Star caliber player before suffering a terrible knee injury in 2001. I knew he was a shell of his former self. I guess at first Dice was too boring for me. But I was still young and still feeling my away around in terms of realizing what roles players could and could not fill.
Five years now as a Piston, McDyess has been nothing but a classy guy bubbling with loyalty, sincerity, and accountability, and a fabulous [...]

And Then There Were 17
I would hope that everybody agrees on the improvements made by Rodney Stuckey this past season. Not only is Stuckey a nice guy, he plays the game hard and with passion. He showed dependability and perseverance, battling the latter much of the season because of all the lineup uncertainties and the Iverson distractions. He even stated at the conclusion of the season that the season was a “waste of time.” Stuckey, dude, couldn’t agree with you more in terms of the team concept, but individually you made sufficient progress.
He has a long way to go to embody an elite NBA point guard though. Floor [...]
Mom’s Got Game
My mom used to be a pretty avid and aware Pistons fan, but life has gotten in the way for her in recent years. Even when she used to watch games, she was no fun to watch them with because she would always go in the other room if the game was close in the final few minutes. It was her unique way of dealing with the anxiety. I guess it was a much more civil tactic than the stuff I had to do to cope, like constantly tinkering with my hands or doofus-ly pacing. I digress.
You could get away with saying she’s somewhat of a [...]
